This week, celebrated soprano Renée Fleming returns to Symphony Hall for an all-Strauss program with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
In the concert’s first half, Andris Nelsons will lead the soprano and orchestra in the Sextet, Moonlight Music, and Final Scene from Capriccio. In the second half, Nelsons will conduct Also Sprach Zarathustra, Strauss’ most popular and philosophical tone poem.

Following on the heels of last week’s successful premiere of Thomas Adès’ Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the English composer will team up with Kirill Gerstein for a Celebrity Series duo piano recital.
Their program will feature Debussy’s En blanc et noir, Lutosławski’s blazing Variations on a theme by Paganini, Ravel’s La Valse, and Shostakovich’s arrangement of Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms for two pianos. The highlight will likely be the concert paraphrase from Adès’ own Powder Her Face.
