The Celebrity Series of Boston has cancelled the balance of its 2019-20 season in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement, coming late Friday, is effective immediately and will mean the cancellation of more than two-dozen events, from the Chieftains Friday night and Daniil Trifonov on Sunday through to the Danish String Quartet on May 3.

“It is our ethical and moral responsibility to care for the welfare of our staff, artists, audience members, and community partners, “said president and executive director Gary Dunning. “As disappointing as the decision is, the cancellation of the remaining Celebrity Series performances in our 2019-2020 season is the only responsible course of action.

“The momentum of the pandemic and various civic and health guidelines and regulations only reinforce the validity of our decision. I regret the impact on our artists and the loss for our audiences. I look forward to a time in the not too distant future where we all can enjoy the joy of live performance.”

Ticketholders are requested to retain their tickets until they receive notification from the Celebrity Series box office or their point of sale about options. Patrons will be contacted with full instructions shortly. They may also refer to the concert update page at celebrityseries.org/about/covid-19/.
