The Linde Center for Music and Learning will officially open its doors June 28 at Tanglewood.

Designed by William Rawn Associates Architects, the four-building complex will house the Tanglewood Learning Institute, an educational program that will bring leading academics, artists, and performers for lectures, demonstrations, and master classes to enhance concert experiences during the Tanglewood season.

Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a free open house from June 29-July 1 will feature workshop recitals by Boston University string quartets, a music and movement class with Lauren Grant of the Mark Morris Dance Group, a live taping of WBUR’s podcast Circle Round, and a discussion between John Harbison and Ken-David Masur entitled “Bach Cantata Coffee House.”

The TLI will also offer four weekend programs this summer at the Linde Center that coincide with selected Tanglewood events. From July 19-21, Renée Fleming will team up with Rod Gilfry to discuss the world premiere of Kevin Puts’s The Brightness of Light. The TLI will host Wagner Weekend from July 26-28 in conjunction with the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s complete performance of Die Walküre, led by Andris Nelsons. From August 8-12, the TLI will hold an FCM Weekend that will explore the composers and works to be heard on the 2019 Festival of Contemporary Music. And Film Weekend, to be held August 23-25, will be dedicated to the annual John Williams Film Night.

Other TLI events scheduled for the summer include the String Quartet MasterPass, featuring the Juilliard String Quartet (June 22-30), guest speakers Madeleine Albright (July 6) and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin (July 27), composer Joan Tower discussing her creative approach (July 10), and musicians Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Gautier Capuçon (July 18), Emanuel Ax (July 30), Yo-Yo Ma (July 31), and Leonidas Kavakos (August 12) in open master classes.

The TLI will also extend its programs to Boston in fall 2019. Online programs will be released in 2020.

Tickets for TLI programs as well as for the 2019 Tanglewood season are available at tanglewood.org; 888-266-1200.
