Utah Arts Review to launch this fall

I’m delighted to announce the launch of Utah Arts Review, our eighth website, coming in September.

As with our existing sites, Utah Arts Review (utahartsreview.com) will bring first class, in-depth coverage of classical music and opera to Salt Lake City, as well as the rest of Utah. But, as its title indicates, UAR will also mark a new expansion of Classical Review’s mission, as we broaden our imprint to cover theater, dance, and visual art in Salt Lake City and throughout the state.

Why Utah, some will ask. Classical Review goes into markets where there is a void in existing arts journalism and where we feel we can make a difference by providing high-quality cultural coverage of benefit to local audiences, arts organizations and communities. Of course, any new site also has to make practical business sense as well. Enough leading Salt Lake City arts organizations have shown a commitment to ad partnerships that we feel a Utah presence is too good an opportunity for us to pass up.

More broadly, I have been wanting to expand Classical Review’s reach to other arts genres for some time. Unfortunately, coverage of dance, theater and the visual arts is becoming just as neglected by legacy media in many markets as is coverage of classical music. As The Classical Review enters its second decade of steady growth, widening of our reach into covering other arts was inevitable.

Utah offers an ideal market for us to debut our first multi-arts site. There is a rich, thriving cultural scene in Salt Lake City with enough top-rank groups–Utah Symphony and Utah Opera, BalletWest, and Pioneer Theatre Company  to name a few—to make for varied and lively coverage within a manageable beat as we start to expand our boundaries beyond classical music.

So look for Utah Arts Review to launch in early September. And, as with all our sites, UAR will be accessible from the drop-down menu when you click Elsewhere at the top of any Classical Review site.
