David Del Tredici

David Del Tredici’s Child Alice has been rarely performed in its complete version. Friday night at Jordan Hall, Gil Rose and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project will remedy that lacuna with a performance of both parts of the work.

Lewis Carroll’s writings served as the inspiration for a number of Del Tredici’s compositions, such An Alice Symphony and works such as Final Alice and the still unperformed Dum Dee Tweedle. Combining orchestral movements and songs for amplified soprano, Child Alice, part of which won the 1980 Pulitzer Prize, sets preface poems from Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Bringing those texts to life will be soprano Courtenay Budd, a Metropolitan Opera National Finalist and a leading interpreter of Del Tredici’s music.

This free concert will take place 8 p.m. Friday at Jordan Hall. bmop.org
