The Boston Symphony Orchestra cancelled the rest of its 2020-21 season on Friday due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. This includes all of the BSO’s 2020 concerts and spring 2021 events as well as the December Holiday Pops programs, traditionally a seasonal cash cow for the orchestra.

The BSO’s cancellations mark a trend among the country’s top symphonic ensembles, as the coronavirus pandemic still rages across the country, preventing concerts in large venues. Both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic also cancelled all or most of their seasons this week.

The BSO also announced that they will begin producing new concerts for online streaming later this month. The series will begin recording at Symphony Hall October 28. More details will be released at that time.
