This season Odyssey Opera has been presenting works based upon the writings of Oscar Wilde. On Friday the company will offer a rare treat, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s The Importance of Being Earnest.

Spanning three acts, this chamber opera is the composer’s final work for the stage. Its performance forces are small, calling for eight singers, two pianos, and percussion.

The staged production will star Neal Ferreira as Jack Worthington, Stefan Barner as Algernon Moncrieff, Jeni Houser as Cecily Cardew, Rachele Schmiege as Gwendolyn Fairfax, Claudia Waite as Lady Bracknell, James Demler as Rev. Chasuble, Christina English as Miss Prism, J.T. Turner as Lane, and Colin Levin as Merriman. Gil Rose conducts.

Performances will take place 7:30 Friday and Saturday at the Wimberly Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts. odysseyopera.org
